The UPSC has been thinking about bringing about changes in the civil services exam pattern for a long time. The last time such comprehensive changes took place was almost three decades back. The UPSC had appointed various committees to suggest possible changes in the exam pattern. The aspirants were kept anxious for a few years about the impending changes. Finally, the much-anticipated changes occurred in 2011 in the Preliminary exam pattern. The optional subject was removed and every candidate had to answer the common paper which included the newly added syllabus consisting of aptitude-related questions.
