The subject matter of the present text has been methodically and systematically developed from the fundamental laws of experimental physics. The book has been written keeping in mind the difficulties of the students. Efforts have been made to make the treatments simple, lucid and rather comprehensive. Great pain and care has been taken in explaining the obscure and difficult points in a simple language in a manner such that the student may feel no difficulty in following subject. A large number of the solved numerical problems has also been included in the present text. At the end of each chapter a selected set of unsolved problems has been given with the view that the students may try to solve them with the help of solved problems and principles incorporated in different sections. To make the book more useful model question papers, prepared by the teachers of different colleges, participating in Agra University seminar on physics teaching in 1969, to whom we are thankful, and solved Agra University Papers of 1970 have been included at the end of the book.
