"The Railway Children" is a classic children's novel written by Edith Nesbit , originally published in 1906. The book tells the story of three children —Roberta (Bobbie ), Peter , and Phyllis —who move to a countryside cottage with their mother after their father is mysteriously taken away by the authorities. They adjust to their new rural life and befriend the locals , particularly the station master and porter at the nearby railway station . The children spend much of their time watching the trains go by and waving to the passengers, all while they try to uncover the truth about their father's disappearance.
