The Woman in White is known for having an eerie encounter on a moonlit London street as its opening scene. Involved in the nefarious plots of Sir Percival Glyde and his 'charming' friend Count Fosco, who has a taste for white mice, vanilla bonbons, and poison, Walter finds himself hired as a drawing master to the stunning Laura Fairlie. The Woman in White is the first and most influential example of the Victorian genre that combined Gothic horror with psychological realism. It explores issues of identity and insanity through the paths and corridors of English country houses and the insane asylum.
